-During See U in the Dark, Mike kept looking at Jason and grinning up a storm.
-During the DCTB speech, when they all got to speak/cry, a camera guy came over and taped and pointed at me almost tearing up.

Spending Christmas Eve Eve with HS & the Chipmunks

A little birdie told us Tuesday night that members of Honor Society were going to be at the 7:20 p.m. showing for Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 (A2) at a mall in NY. We wanted to go (see the movie and the mall), so we asked two of our friends to meet us there. It was the perfect halfway point between us. We met up at 7 p.m., after being stuck in traffic for what seemed like forever, ordered popcorn and drinks and headed into the theater.

Oh, did we mention that during this time, Honor Society was actually in the lobby? They were chatting it up with family, friends and fans. By 7:20 p.m. everyone was seated and ready for the movie to start. After a bunch of previews and a short, short film, it finally began!!

Everyone cheered when Honor Society came on the big screen (check out the trailer in an earlier post for a sneak peek at the scene). They looked great and relaxed. We hope to see them more in the next movie --- the third installment of the squeakilogy [Author's note: We made the up term 'squeakilogy' while talking with Alex, and have no idea if there will be a third Alvin & the Chipmunks movie]. After the movie when we complimented Alex on the great job he and the guys did, he replied (with something like this): "It was filmed a long time ago, and we wore weird clothes."

An informal meet and greet started in the theater lobby after the movie. People started asking for pictures with the guys in front of the Alvin and the Chipmunks figures (they were huge and plastic). Alex and I 'hid' behind the figures (see picture below) to try and have at least one chipmunk in the picture -- we failed.

Katie then had a few questions about the drum head with the design on it - she wanted the technical name for that part of the drum. Things started to get very complicated. Alex began describing the anatomy of a drum set. Let's just call it Drum History 101 with Professor Noyes. Words were flying left and right - batter head, resonant head, lamp, animals, Chicago, different sized drum heads, etc. The conversation concluded when Alex told us that we could thank him when we were on Jeopardy or Millionaire - and if we were ever on Millionaire we can use him for phone-a-friend. I responded "I'll give you a call."

Then we discovered that the tails on the figures were broken (unscrewed). Alex picked one up and poof! he magically had a tail! Just wait until you see the picture....(hopefully he'll twitpic it soon).

We hung around chatting with our friends for a bit when Alex joined our group and Katie told him a story. We won't repeat it here but it is something that we mentioned on the blog so if you followed our Fall Frenzy adventures you might know what she told him. He was shocked and his eyes were popping out of his head. Too funny.

Then it was time for the guys to go, so we said our goodbyes to Mike (and somehow lost Jason in the shuffle so we didn't get to say goodbye to him!) and told him that we would see him next week!

The movie was super cute and although Honor Society is only in it for a short bit in the beginning - it is definitely worth seeing. Be sure to stay for the credits as well because all of the gents names are in there!

Article: Honor Society Achieving Excellence

MyTelus

(bum) - Honor Society was named the “Breakout Band to Watch” in 2009 by Rolling Stone magazine, which is absolutely the case. The American foursome, who has toured with the Jonas Brothers, released their complete debut album Fashionably Late this year, which includes some Jonas Brothers collaborations. Their single Where Are You Now can also be heard on the soundtrack for the teen flick Bandslam, starring Vanessa Hudgens. As one of the hottest boy bands out there, Honor Society is not immune to the onslaught of juvenile hysteria.

Did you choose the band name “Honor Society” because you wished that your excellence would be recognized?

Michael: That’s a good question. It’s partially it. We do try to thrive for excellence; we try to be the best band that we can be. The name also just kind of describes our friendship, our fraternity type of feeling. That’s why we like the name, and it also just gave us the feeling that our fans are just in the “honor society” with us. So it’s kind of very inclusive in that way.

Is your worst fault not to be punctual; is that why you called your album “Fashionably Late”?

Andrew: (Laughs). The name Fashionably Late, the way we look at it, was from the minute that you start playing music as a child, especially rock’n’roll music, you envision your first record, and it feels like it takes forever to get there, to the point that you release your first album. This is our first record, so it feels like we’re late. Inevitably, it takes a while to get there, but we feel at the same time fashionably late; it’s kind of a perfect timing. We’re showing up just at the right time. It’s kind of that play on words.

Before doing the Fashionably Late Tour, you did one called The Full Moon Crazy Tour. And you’ve got a track called Full Moon Crazy on your album. Are you guys obsessed by full moons?

Michael: (Laughs). I guess we used to be obsessed with crazy girls!

Andrew: Yeah, that’s where the name came from. The song is about a girl that you’re in a relationship with – and it can happen to anybody – who just kind of goes a little crazy. I remember when we wrote this song, Mike came up with the title. We knew what we wanted this song to be about, kind of a crazy girl and a crazy experience (we usually start with a title when we write songs).

Jason: And then we decided since the tour we did was sort of an after hour tour, shows at night time… The name Full Moon Crazy just made sense.

You had the chance to go on tour with the Jonas Brothers. How was that experience?

Jason: It was a dream come true, just to go on tour with them and play from anywhere from 20 000 to 50 000 people. We actually played in Toronto, did this huge stadium there. Every night was just a thrill to be able to go out and play music and play in the round, too, which is something we had never experienced. It took a little while to get used to that, but we got very comfortable in that round. Jordin Sparks was on the tour as well. We became really close with her and her band. It was like a traveling musical summer camp! We had the best time of our lives, really.

Are any of you guys going out with Jordin Sparks?

Jason: (Laughs). No, but she’s our buddy!

Michael: Anyone must be very lucky. She’s beautiful and she’s so talented. She’s excellent!

Nick Jonas collaborated on four songs on your album, Joe Jonas on two, Kevin Jonas on only one. Do you get along with Nick the most?

Michael: We’re close to all of the guys, but it seems like when we’re around Nick, there’s always a guitar around or some other kind of instrument, so it just kind of lended itself to write a little bit more with Nick. He writes very quickly too. In a couple of minutes with him and us in the room, we have a song. But we’re as equally close with Joe and Kevin for sure.

When you were teenagers, did you dream of being a popular boy band such as the Backstreet Boys and N’Sync?

Jason: I think we looked up to more bands like Nirvana or Pearl Jam and those kind of bands, and also Prince, Michael Jackson and someone who entertains people. It was certainly something we wanted for a long time. But definitely, we had respect for bands like Backstreet Boys, N’Sync and music that they made. I think we always wanted to play instruments and be more like a rock band.

Which one of your songs is the most meaningful for you and why?

Andrew: Probably Don’t Close the Book. We wrote this song not too long before we moved out to Los Angeles from New York, when we went out to record our record. It has a sentimental feel to it, like, “Don’t close the book on us; we’re going out to LA to make this record, but we will be back…”

Jason: One of the songs that sticks out particularly is Two Rebels. It’s a song that we all co-wrote kind of early on, when we first started the band. It also is very inclusive of our fans, saying, “Hey, become a rebel with us, we can do it together.” It’s definitely one that is personal.

Michael: I would say Two Rebels also. It’s got so many different meanings to it. There was someone at the end, special, that sort of inspired the song. You know, just that feeling of running somewhere with someone is very romantic, and sort of leaving everything behind, just jump in your car and drive, forget everybody, forget everything…

Alex: I think, for me, probably Here Comes Trouble. It’s one of the last ones that we’ve recorded for the album and we wrote it with one of our very good friends, Jared Scharff. It has a lot of meaning for me.

Let’s talk about two of your most popular songs on iTunes… What inspired you to create Over You?

Michael: We did co-write that one with Nick (Jonas). From our perspective, it’s about a guy that just can’t figure out why he can’t get over his ex-girlfriend. And I think we’ve all been there; you know the relationship is over, you know it’s probably not a good relationship for you, but at the same time, you want that person and you just can’t figure it out.

What inspired you to create See U in the Dark?

Andrew: It was the first song that we all wrote together as a band. Again, we started with the title of the band and Michael had the title of the song. It had such a visual element to it. The story came out of that visual idea. We wrote it very quickly.

Michael: Basically, See U in the Dark is a metaphor for seeing… a guy seeing a girl who he grew up with, who he was always seeing as a friend. It’s about that moment where it shifts and you see her in a romantic way; she kind of blossoms in front of your eyes…

Oh, so you’re talking about your best friend in that song…

Andrew: Hmm… Maybe! (he smiles).

Modern Drummer Blogs: Honor Society's Alex Noyes

Modern Drummer

Hey, MD, I just touched down in Newark, NJ, after five crazy-hectic months of non-stop touring. Honor Society just completed the first leg of our tour in support of our debut album, Fashionably Late, which came out in September on Hollywood Records. It’s been an incredible couple of months. I’ve waited my whole life to put out an album, and to have it drop and go #18 on the Billboard chart in its first week was bananas! We have incredible fans—the best, for real!

I’m pumped for some down time, because I’m headed back to the basement to stretch out on some new licks I picked up on the road. I had the chance to tour with some awesome drummers in the past five months, including Jack Lawless (Jonas Brothers), Michael Berdard (Jordin Sparks), and Mike B (Esmee Denters). All of them have different playing styles, but all of them are super filthy players. I would spend most nights on the side of the stage just taking notes!

The second leg of our tour starts in mid-January, and I’m stoked to get back out there. I’m really going back to the lab and getting back to basics, working on my rudiments…stuff I haven’t even thought about since high school. The music of Honor Society demands straight-ahead arena-rock power and smooth R&B grooves—and it’s definitely a balancing act to make sure that they’re both done convincingly. To help me change gears like that, I’m going to try to meet up with Michael Berdard out in L.A. in December. He’s one of the best out there playing straight pop and still able to shift into this deep Aaron Spears–esque gospel style.

All right, I have to go lock myself in the basement and start shedding. I’m digging in and working on some new stuff for the second leg of the tour—trying to incorporate some inverted paradiddles (R-L-L-R, L-R-R-L) and triplet-feel ruffs. I’m also going to check out that Chip Ritter DVD and see if we can put some extra visual hot sauce into the show.

Thanks to all my sponsors and artist reps—Kevin Packard at Ludwig, Wayne Wilburn at Paiste, Ben Davies with Vic Firth, and everyone over at Evans. Best people, best gear! Can’t wait to kill it in 2010 for all those guys. A special thanks to Modern Drummer as well, thank you so much for your support.

"Do You Honor Roll?" Fan Project

This is a project that @08vintagelove is working on - please read what she's written and help her out!

"Do You Honor Roll?" My plan of action for the video to Ellen is basically a dare. I've already started putting it together. It's going to incorporate Ellen's own dancing and a huge dare from all of us to her to bring the guys on the show and learn the Honor Roll. My friends and I made our parts last night. What I need you guys to do, if you're willing, is to tape yourselves and your friends doing the following: simply jamming out while doing the Honor Roll, teaching the Honor Roll, and daring Ellen to learn it and bring the guys on the show. Do me a favor and make sure you tape this sentence: "We dare you, Ellen Degeneres, to learn the Honor Roll."

Once you've done this, post the video(s) on youtube and @reply me with the link. I'll put everything together and post the video once I'm done. At that point, we'll all tweet it, e-mail it, and suggest it to the show, Ellen, and the management.

I may or may not tape everyone doing the Honor Roll at Hershey on New Years Eve as well, just to add effect to the whole "everyone is doing it" idea. Not to mention, we have to make sure to point out that Honor Society has a strong following. Duh. =)

Dean's List

As we look back on this year its hard to ever imagine again that dreams don't come true. In this end of the year note we want you, our fans, to know how much happiness you bring us in the good times and the tough times. We saw more than ever what amazing hearts and dedication all of you have and that drives us to be the best band, and people, we can be.

From this past summer when we went out on tour with the Jonas Brothers we were honestly a little scared of how we'd do and how we'd be received but you all gave us the confidence to shine. Then you shocked us by making our late night "Full Moon Crazy" Tour a total success.

We said it every night on stage and we meant it that we made our debut album "Fashionably Late" for you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making it debut at #18 on the Billboard Charts, that is an honor that we'll never forget and we know you'll help us get it to #1! The "Fashionably Late Tour" was another huge dream come true! We hope you had half as much fun as we did! haha.

For real, when we hear you're all lined up all day and sometimes all night for our concerts it gives us an energy that is indescribable. We take the responsibility of giving you the best concert you've ever seen very seriously. The fact that you wait in long lines to meet us after the shows as well is beyond awesome.

So whether its albums, soundtracks, movies, awards shows, PPP's, live chats, say nows, youTubes, Gentlemen's Clubs, tweets, Late night T.V., Verizon in-stores, meet and greets, soundcheck parties, Pears performances, milk cartons, video games or dance parties we do it ALL for you.

You have NO idea how much we're planning for 2010, we WILL bring you the best HONOR SOCIETY ever.

We wish there was a way for you to always remember this statement: It is an honor to be your band.

We love you, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year everyone.
Your Gentlemen,
Michael, Alexander, Jason and Andrew

Entertainers bring holiday spirit to NY Stock Exchange tree lighting

IBTIMES

Entertainers came out full of holiday spirit on a freezing afternoon at the New York Stock Exchange Tree Lighting ceremony on Thursday.

The artists sang traditional Christmas songs as well as their own music on a stage in front of the exchange. Some of them went inside to the trading floor to help ring the closing bell.

Country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, rock band Twisted Sister with Broadway's Rock of Ages, Stryper, New York band Honor Society and violinist Joshua Bell were among the performers.

Also appearing were jazz quartet The Manhattan Transfer, rock band Collective Soul, country music singer David Nail, Dancing with the Stars winner Kym Johnson, singer Kate Voegele.

Maria Tingoli from New Jersey, who works near the Stock Exchange, says that she hasn't missed the tree lighting in years. Despite noting that the tree this year was slightly crooked, she was content.

When asked why she likes to show up at the event, she reflected on some of the difficulties the country has faced such as the troubled economy and the 9/11 tragedy in 2001.

"It's nice to see people smile, nobody smiles," she said.

Megan Skehan from the Bronx, came to see Honor Society, a band from upstate New York. She said it was her first visit to the Stock Exchange tree lighting.

"They're really good performers and they're always really good to their fans," she said. "They stayed out like half an hour to say hi and take pictures."

The stock exchange tree has been a tradition in New York since 1923 but this was the first year that the event was streamed live on the Internet, NYSE Euronext CEO Duncan L. Niederauer said today.

A cast of music superstars and local New York City talent will perform during the 86th annual NYSE Euronext holiday tree lighting festivities on Thursday, December 10th from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., with the illumination of the 65 ft. tall and 34 ft. wide Norway Spruce taking place at approximately 4:55 p.m. on Broad Street directly in front of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

The 86th annual NYSE Euronext holiday tree lighting will feature Grammy(R)-winning country music star and actor, Billy Ray Cyrus; Grammy-winning jazz group, The Manhattan Transfer; rock bands Twisted Sister with Constantine Maroulis, Kerry Butler and James Carpinello from the Broadway musical, "Rock of Ages;" Collective Soul and Stryper; pop rock band, Honor Society; singer/songwriter and daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley, Alexa Ray Joel; country music artist, David Nail; Grammy-winning violinist, Joshua Bell; One Tree Hill actress and singer/songwriter, Kate Voegele; Meet the Browns actress and gospel singer Tamela Mann and teen choir, The Monsignor Donovan Choir. Valerie Smaldone; Dancing with the Stars', Kym Johnson; the New York Jets Flight Crew and Santa Claus will also make a special appearance during the festivities, which is open to the public.

"The NYSE Euronext holiday tree lighting is an outstanding New York tradition and great kick-off to the holiday season," said Duncan L. Niederauer, CEO, NYSE Euronext. "The all-star celebrity line up and local choir will provide a thrilling and memorable performance. I want to thank each of them for their participation and invite the pubic and the Downtown New York community to join us."

The NYSE Euronext holiday tree has been Downtown New York tradition since 1923. This year's tree, which hails from Ramapo, N.Y., will be adorned with 10,000 multi-colored lights, 250 multi-colored decorative balls bearing the NYSE Euronext logo, and a 6 ft. star, all supported on a 8 ft. by 10 ft. base fashioned as a holiday gift box. Performances will begin at 3 p.m. and continue through 6 p.m. and will be available to television networks via a broadcast feed at Ascent 3419. The tree lighting (from 4:50 p.m. -- 5 p.m.) will be available for viewing on www.nyx.com.

Also, adding to the festivities, several of the musicians performing at the tree lighting ceremony will walk the NYSE trading floor and ring the NYSE Closing Bell(R) at 4 p.m.

New York Stock Exchange Holiday Tradition:

The NYSE community has been celebrating the holiday season for over two centuries -- marking the time of year with extended holidays and abbreviated trading hours. In the late nineteenth century, brokers rung in the holiday with tin whistles and horns. Occasionally, the festivities were complemented with a saxophone quartet and a banjo player on the trading floor. In the last few years of the nineteenth century, the holiday festivities subsided and were celebrated in quieter ways, with a religious service at Trinity Church or caroling outside the Exchange.

The first NYSE holiday tree lighting took place in 1923 and has taken place annually. (Note, the tree was not lit in 1973 because of the energy crisis.) Over the years, the NYSE holiday tree lighting ceremonies have grown to include participation by world-class celebrities and musicians as well as listed companies. The NYSE tree lighting ceremony is one of the oldest in New York City and the NYSE holiday tree is one of the most visited attractions during the holidays.

Now Voegele is seeing her musical wish list come true with A Fine Mess, her second serving of undeniable pop-rock charm, produced by Mike Elizondo (Maroon 5, Fiona Apple) available now. www.katevoegele.com.
